I love everything about Ashley's home--location-weather-water-water-water.
Have I mentioned she went to high school in Portsmouth, Virginia--to which Gosport,, VA is a suburb? And now she lives in Gosport, Hampshire--which is a suburb of Portsmouth, UK. To get to Ashley's from Portsmouth you take a 5-minute ferry ride from Portsmouth. It was absolutely stunning!
Such a day we had! We were going to see Rhys' band do a charity gig, but Ash took me out early and we "did" the Harbour. The Spinnaker is the huge landmark. Next to the ferry dock and the train station.
It reminds me of South Street Seaport or Baltimore's Inner Harbour. Lots of fun. We had an awesome lunch at the foot of the Spinnaker--which people were ab-surfing all day!
They we took a walk along the Harbour. The old fortifications still stand. Here is where the ships of prisoners who settled Australia pushed off. This harbour has long been home to the British fleet.
About a 15-minute saunter down the Harbour, you come to the ruin of an old stone church. It's the Royal Garrison Church. There is no roof. No windows. It was built in 1212. It was in continuous use until 1941. The Nazis got it.
