Behind Greyfriars, and across the street, is one of London's lovely pocket parks. This one is Postmen's Park. It is pretty and perfect and I wandered in to sit. I could see there were plaques on a wall of one of the buildings, with a roof to protect them. I warned you that London can break your heart. I wandered around St. Paul's, continuing on the ancient, curving old streets. I quickly came to the shell of Greyfriars. Bombed in the Blitz. It had stood almost 300 years. Rather than tear down the remaining steeple or the outer walls, instead it's been filled with a rose garden and benches. I sat and thought.

Now it's time to walk the bridge. It's amazing. To the east you can see Tower Bridge. In front of you you could count maybe 8 spires of the churches designed by Christopher Wren after London burned in 1666. You're going to land in old London. London that was trodden by Romans. The Globe. Before we move on, and what none of the books tell you, is that The Globe, yeah, THAT Globe, Shakespeare's theatre, is right next door. In case you want to work that in, too. Disclaimer: actually, THAT Globe burned, but this is supposed to be totally accurate. Except for the plumbing. And electricity. And windows. Well. You get it.
