I woke up at around 10:30, quite late but it's because i couldn't sleep for such a long time last night. We both got ready and left the hotel to go to the beach which is just over the road from where we are staying. There were loads of loungers and umbrellas that were available to relax on, for the right price but we decided to lay our towels out on the sand instead.
I walked up the beach to a woman wearing a traditional pyramid shaped hat with her nose and mouth as well as the rest of her body covered. Women in Asia hate dark skin, they think the paler you are the more beauty you hold so they cover up head to toe in pyjama type attire. God knows how they manage in the heat! I bought a large bottle of water and got Daniel a coke.
I took off my playsuit and lay down on the towel in my bikini. The time we took recovering in Dalat meant that my beautiful golden tan was disappearing so inwas determined to build it up again. I put my ray bans on (fake), plugged in my earphones and immersed myself in my own bubble, keeping me company were the sweet sounds of Jimi Hendrix, the arctic monkeys and whatever else that played on shuffle.
Russian men with pop bellies, hairy backs and speedos patrolled the beach with their trophy wives and stern faced children. A man approached us selling some artwork which were all so beautiful but unfortunately we don't have much space for such a delicate souvenir. Women walk up the shore with pots of steamed crab, although we saw a sign warning tourists that some of the crab being sold isn't fresh so we stayed well away of that. At around 15:00, the sun was moving back behind the palm trees which i thought was odd as i expected it to set by the ocean, i think it sets in the west where we are.
I didn't go in the water as i was too carried away with tanning and my music but Daniel went in and said it was rough which you could see by how violently the waves were crashing on the shore. He said it got deep very quickly as well and lets face it, the water wasn't quite that of the sea in Barbados so i gave it a miss. We left the beach and walked down the strip to find a place for lunch and ended up in a nice restaurant sitting outside.
I ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee and Dan had a Latte which were layered with different shades of brown and looked delicious. At first we were both going to order the tuna sandwich with fries but they had run out so we opted for a breakfast. When it came i was highly disappointed. We both asked for scrambled eggs but they came fried, the egg white on mine was slimey which put me right off not to mention the mushrooms; three tiny button mushrooms. The bacon was also pathetic, three minuscule pieces of streaky bacon, not cooked much and mainly compiled of fat. The sausages were tiny little cocktail sausages, boiled which didn't taste too good not to mention the texture when i bit into it. And finally, the hash browns, the main selling point of the dish. They tasted great but were far too overcooked so i ended up eating only the mushrooms and one slice of toast. So disappointed with the food here i can see a slight difference in my weight already.
When we settled the bill we went back onto the beach and walked with our feet in the sand. Opposite the beach you can see the island "Vinpearl" which is where we are going tomorrow for the water park. It has a sign in the style of the infamous hollywood lettering placed on the mountains with cables cars transporting people from the mainland to the island, it is also the longest cable car journey over water Daniel said which unnerves me a bit as i'm not fond of heights over water. We walked all the way down the beach until we could see not much else so we headed back to the "central park" outdoor swimming pool by the beach. On our way we passed a man who was THE IMAGE of Putin it was quite scary actually! How unfortunate for the man to look like such a dickhead. Although it could have actually been him, we'll never know!
We got to the pool and hit our stuff under one of the loungers cos lord knows we ain't paying for one and jumped in the pool, which was a lot deeper than i expected as i couldn't touch the bottom! While i was swimming i spied the couple we met in ayyuthaya Steph and Stewart but i didn't go over to them as, well, i don't know really, i guess i couldn't be bothered for the conversation. I sat in a rubber ring for a while thinking about life again, i got a bit teary as i remembered the past and the spectacular man who made my childhood, my papa. A swimming pool is a great place to have a little cry as you can blame the redness in your eyes for the chlorine in the water.
We stayed in the pool until it began raining, very heavily. It took me back to when me and Alex were in the pool in Barbados during a downpour. I love being in water while it's raining; even better to be under it and hear the faint, muffled drips of the water hitting the surface. A man who worked there blew his whistle which meant it was time to get out so we left and luckily our hotel is bang opposite the pool so it was only a short walk until we were under shelter.
For dinner we went back to the same strip. We walked through the night market again as dan needs a wallet and some more bracelets. I'm also on the lookout for a pipe shaped as a dragon because Daniel lost the one i had bought for Alex from Ho Chih Minh City, i am determined to find the same one but am having no luck so far. We took a walk passed a lot of the restaurants and it appears to be ladies night tonight with loads of places offering free drinks if you bear hold to a vagina. And man, i feel like a woman tonight as i'm wearing my white dress with the bow detail on the back for the first time and my curls out in all their glory. First time i've felt mildly attractive travelling for a while!
We ended up at Oasis as a friendly extremely camp vietnamese boy reeled us in and gave us a free shot. They were playing all my favourite carribean songs like "girl i want to make you sweat", "no, no, no" as well as "sim simma" so as you can imagine i felt right at home singing along to all the tunes. We both ordered pizza as we've been let down too much by other dishes and you have to be a f***ing imbecile to mess up a pizza. I ordered one with tuna and onion and Dan went for, wait for it, a margarita but i can't call him boring as it's always a safe option (and usually the cheapest!)
When it arrived i was happy as it was just as i imagined and i even finished it all! Well, minus the crusts as when i'm getting full of i scrape the cheesy toppings, like mother, like daughter! We stayed at Oasis for a while taking in the surroundings and it started to get busy very quickly. A bunch of loud english girls sat behind us which subjected us to echoes of "SHUH UUUUUP!", part of me wanted to turn around and punch them in the head while the other part wanted to join them as i do feel like a bit of an old bore at times.
Daniel asked the european guy at the door if he knows anywhere that does marijuana that isn't tea and he tried to sort us out but turns out the guy was busy. As we left and were strolling around a man on a bike offered us cocaine to which we declined but he said he had weed which meant me and Daniel had to get on his bike somewhere. I know this sounds dangerous but it isn't as the roads are always full of people and this kind of thing happens all the time. He took us around for a while and we met another man on a bike. They then showed us a small bag of green stuff which didn't really smell like weed but looked more like it than the crap we got yesterday. I asked him how much and he said $100 which made me laugh and walk off. They kept trying to bargain with us lowering it down bit by bit we didn't want it at all so kept walking away declining the offer but they followed beside us on their bikes. He even got some out and burned it but we still didn't buy it. We then had to find our way back through the streets which was a bit of a hassle.
We eventually got back to where we started and walked back to the hotel room so we could try and get to bed earlier than last night. I slept in the single bed yesterday but today we pushed them together to make a bed to make the gods jeleous. We watched an episode of an idiot abroad and fell asleep eventually.
