We managed to have a lay in today as our bus picks us up at 12:30 which gave us enough time to make sure we had all our things together. We went to reception and had some lunch, Dan had fried rice with egg and i had veggie noodles. We gathered our bags from the room And sat down outside reception waiting for out bus. It eventually came at 13:00 and we hurried on before making around 8 more pick ups of passengers. It was a very tight squeeze and one of the seats was broken but thankfully we were one of the first pick ups so we could chose our seats.
The journey took us through the beautiful mountainous scenery of the central highlands. Our driver was handling some of the sharp turns a bit dangerously and he was speeding up sharp bends on the side of the mountain which was unsettling to say the least. We must have got to
A high altitude as the temperature dropped and there was mist amongst the trees.
We were supposed to arrive in Dalat at 17:00 but we ended up getting there at around 18:00ish. It's quite a big town, nestled between the large, green mountains. The minibus dropped us off at a place and as usual we were bombarded with people trying to send us to their guesthouse. We walked up the road for a abit and asked i side a few hotels how much a room was and they were all around $15 a night if not more.
We spotted a big bakery offering fresh pastries, dumplings, bread and loads of different cakes so we popped inside. We picked up a tray and went around selecting different pastries, i went for a sugar donut and a thick slice of banana cake. We ended up at the hotel where the bus dropped us off and it is also in the lonely planet guide. A guy at reception showed us to a $12 a night room and i was amazed.
The furnishings and decor looked too nice to be $12! The ceiling is quite high and there are two double beds as well as so much extra space. The en suite is also nice providing hot shower. Balcony included. The beds are so comfy and the sheets smell so fresh it feels too good to be true. We chilled for a while in the room eating our cakes before heading out to find somewhere to eat.
We wandered down and up the hilly roads of Dalat but didn't really find a restaurant. We walked down the steps to the square "dalat centre" where we walked through the market. They sell loads of beautiful, colourful flowers as well as nigerian man shoes, clothes, piles of lush green avocados and these small sock things that you can wear with flipflop which we were going to buy but realised how small the sizing was!
We went back up the steps and decided to go back to the bakery for something to eat as we didn't see many options for food. I got a fluorescent green steamed pineapple cake, a sausage cake, half a ham and cheese sandwich and another donut. We went back to the room to watch an idiot abroad and enjoy our treats.
