We woke up quite late, around 11:00 and once we were ready we messaged Darryl telling him we'll be at the fast food stall we were at yesterday. When we got there i ordered Mi Quang and Daniel went for Cau Lau again. It was ready in a matter on minutes and as we waited we were given free green tea. I watched as the man made the two dishes. It's a matter of dipping noodles into hot water for a few seconds and putting into a bowl with greens( mint, bay leaves and some really overpowering leaf that i can't stand). As garnish i got a squid and a quail egg as well as peanuts and crispy thin bread broken up.
It's so delicious and the portion was perfect, all for only 25,000D, just over a dollar! As we were eating we saw Darryl walk passed us so Daniel ran to grab him. We were thinking of a motive for the day and decided on heading to the beach on the north, the one with more locals than tourists. We were in a tricky situation as i didn't want to ride a bike but my leg still hurt so wasn't sure if i could cycle. After a while of encouragement, Darryl persuaded me to get on the back of his bike with him which i'm nervous about, but i s'pose this is the man who's biked all over Cambodia and Vietnam so he's got some skill. We paid the bill and headed back to go to the loo, grab towels and on the way back Dan rented a bicycle to ride to the beach.
We met back with Darryl at the corner of our road and the one with the baguette. Daniel had a head start and Darryl directed him the way, pretty much just straight down a road for 2km until you see the beach. Me and Darryl followed him after a two minute head start. When i got on only one of his foot stools was on but luckily it was the one on the side of the exhaust because god help me if i burned my leg on that!
Riding with Darryl was a completely different experience. He used his snake hips to steer down the road winding in and out. I was s***ting myself and kept asking him to slow down and he said i was the most unstable passenger he's had. God knows i was holding on for dear life. Darryl said we had more chance of an accident with me being stiff as i'm not flowing with the movement of him and the bike. I trusted him though as he's actually got experience under his belt.
We got there before Dan and tried to bargain with the woman about letting us park his bike there. It cost 5,000D which isn't too bad i guess. Daniel came around three minutes later and we had to pay to park the bicycle too to which Darryl tried to put it on his bike and then tried to take it onto the beach with us but security blew his whistle at him. Bless him for trying anyway.
We didn't pay for a lounger, instead we kay our towels on the sand by the round fishing boats. It wasn't that busy at the beach but there was a healthy tourist:local ratio going on. Darryl bought two bottles of fresh beer with him and i rolled us a joint which we smoked with the beer. I also bought two baguettes, i ate my meat one pretty much when we first got to the beach but saved my laughing cow cheese one for after a swim. A group of american girls later approached us asking where we bought the weed and we told them. They repaid the favour by keeping an eye on Daniel's bag while we all went in the sea for a swim.
The sea was quite shallow so you had to go out pretty far to get any depth. Although when darryl was about 10 metres away from me i was still in deeper than him! Weird! There were more locals on the beach now and slowly but surely the tourists vanished. We stayed on the beach until there were mats laid out on the sand for families to sit on and eat. Women had come selling food like soup and crispy bread with sauce. We watched the round fisherman boats battle it's way passed where the waves break and off into the sea for an evening of fishing. This is when Darryl swam beside it to see how fast it's going, he couldn't keep up.
Later, Darryl rode back to the intersection to buy wine and donuts. Unfortunately they didn't have anymore donuts but they did however have a bottle of red wine made in Dalat. It's been so long since i had red wine so Darryl was my saviour at this moment. We cracked it open and passed it around while i ate my other cheese baguette.
We had to leave before it was completely dark so Daniel could cycle with some light so around 17:45 i got back on the bike with Darryl, feeling ao nervous with butterflies in my stomach and we were off. I tried not to hold on so hard this time as it's not good for the balance. After a while of riding, i began to feel more safe so let go of the rail and put my hands around his waist. I remember how nice his hair smelt; like air freshener but a motorbike edition, the smell was comforting considering i was almost weeing myself.
We agreed with Dan to meet at 108 baguette place but as we would have been quicker we went back to Darryl's room so i could use the loo. I also used some more of his iodine solution as i had been in the sea earlier and didn't want to risk an infection. We then walked to the baguette place and dan was already there ordering his.
Once we all got our bageuttes, we went our separate ways until around an hour. We went back to our room to shower and change then onto "Bar 43" to meet darryl and Philipp. When we got there, Alexia was also with them and we were later joined by Tom. I noticed loads of small origami birds and flowers on the table and it turns out Tom is a wizard with paper. We used all of the flyers that people from bars had given us and at first we made a small, easy bird and then a slightly harder one which moves when you pull it. I had a hard time figuring out how to make it move once i made it but turns out i was just moving the bit of paper in my hand rather than pulling it: stoned.
Alexia would be turning 21 at midnight so everyone was in high spirits. It was getting quite late so me, daniel and darryl decided to order food before it was too late. I ordered wonton soup, Daniel had Cau Lao again and daryll went for tofu with chilli and lemongrass and an aubergine clay-pot which looked sensational.
All night we had been on the fresh beer and it was only a matter of time until we finished the keg; around 23:30 so we settled the bill and left the cafe/bar. We were undecided about sleeping or going out but it was only ten minutes till midnight so we stood on the empty road to welcome Alexia's 21st birthday ( although she looks a lot older!). When it turned midnight we all gave her a hug and she suggested going to "Volcano" for a beer.
When we went in it was pretty dead as usual but we all ordered a beer and went to play a game of pool, Daniel and I against Darryl and Alexia who are both good players. Tonight we weren't on the ball and lost. We were getting very tired so decided to leave after our drink but arranged vaguely to meet with alexia again tomorrow. Darryl came back with me and Daniel to see the pool and he was amazed. We changed into swimwear and got in, it was such a nice, calm atmosphere swimming in the dark. Darryl put on some pretty lights that were hanging on he ceiling of the walkway which completed the picture. I swam around 30 lengths in total which i'm proud of and beat the boys in a race! Darryl was sold, he was moving into our hotel tomorrow. He felt bad for paying the same as us but for a small dark hotel who shuts the gates after 22:00. I felt even more sorry for Philipp as he's been here for three weeks and was staying somewhere even worse than darryl's. To be fair, Darryl's room isn't bad at all it's just the place in general. After a good hour in the pool, we said goodnight to Darryl and went to bed.
