Pe said we could meet at 9:00/9:30 today and when we all woke up we went to investigate if there was any damage to our bags. The small netted compartment of my backpack had been nibbled, even though it was inside another bag hanging on the zip line, everyone else's bags were fine though; i seem to keep on pulling the short straw during this trip! We said goodbye to our treehouse and skidded along the zip wire (without the help of a guide nay i add) and headed to camp for breakfast. We got the same as we did the day before and it was delicious although i didn't have much as i didn't have an appetite but nibbled on some bread and butter.
We wouldn't be zip lining today, only trekking, rock climbing and absailing so we headed off into the jungle to trek upwards back to the top of the waterfall. Here we took some photos with the whole group and tour guides before we set off again. We were trekking upwards and downwards and my lungs really couldn't keep up, i thought i was genuinely on the verge of a heart attack or developing asthma, if that's even possible. After an exhausting trek we reached our next challenge: rock climbing. I had taken my rings off beforehand which was good thinking as they would have dug into my fingers from the force plus, i think holding onto the wires scratched the silver on them so didn't want any more damage to be done. Aggy went first, then Fleur and then it was me. It was quite tricky holding yourself close to the cliff with one hand while changing your safety hooks onto other wires to move up with you. The worst part was moving sideways from one side of the rocks to the other. There was very little space to put your feet and my heart was beating out of my chest i just really wanted to throw a tantrum and cry, but i had to stop being a p**** about it and managed to climb to the top of the rocks fairly quickly.
Next, there was more trekking, after what seemed like hours clambering up trees and rocks we arrived at a platform on a tree with a wire bridge connecting to two. There were two wires either side to hold onto and one wire running down the bottom for our feet. There was also a wire above our heads to clip our harnesses into (pe always said harnett which made me chuckle). This was tough and i could feel how unsteady my balance was. I had to use the muscles in my forearms to steady me from falling or putting a foot wrong. After a struggle with balance and sore hands we all arrived safely to the opposite platform. Now for more trekking wahey! But i was relieved when Pe said it was easy trekking, although somewhat skeptical about what his definition of easy was. We began walking on a relatively flat-ish surface until we reached a group of gigantic bamboo trees. Pe said people cut them and use them as body armour, the circumference was more than twice as big as those of a regular bamboo tree. We continued walking through the jungle when the plants began to space out and i recognised the surroundings from when we first walked into the jungle. We eventually got onto a dirt road, which was a sign that we were close to walking and within 30 minutes we arrived back at the same shop in the village we started off at. As we were all walking in the sub, with the dust being kicked into the atmosphere by our steps i felt like i was Ben Affleck in Armageddon and that we had all come back from mission impossible. My nose was running and my cough was getting worse but thank god, we had completed it! The village was having a party opposite us and there were beers flowing and music playing with really bad live vocals. I really felt like i needed a pat on the back, a "well done you did it!" Or mainly a hug from my mum but none of that was going to happen so i sucked up the pain in my legs and chilled out. Food was shortly brought out to us but i felt sick as anything so didn't touch any of it, i didn't want to seem rude but i know that if i ate anything, it would have come straight back out again. Once the others finished eating, our mini bus came around the corner and we said our goodbyes to the two younger tour guides and got on with Pe. It was a long bumpy and dusty ride back to Pakse and i really couldn't wait to have a shower. We were dropped back to the "Green Discovery" office and arranged with Aggy and Fleur to meet for dinner around 19:30.
Dan and i headed to a tourist info place to book our bus tickets to Don Det in the 4,000 islands for the next morning then went back to the same guesthouse with the kitten and were put into a different room than before. When we walked in we were overwhelmed by how hot and stuffy it was so we went back down with our ipads. The owner of the guesthouse came rushing outside and grabbed Dan and another random backpacker man into the guesthouse binthought that maybe there was a massive rat that needed to be caught or a spider even. As i followed them up the stairs to investigate i passed a spanish looking girl dripping wet, wrapped in a towel. Turns out there was an electrical fire. God knows why the woman ran down to call the men because there was a fire extinguisher there for her to use.
I rolled a spicy cigarette and put my headphones in and took a walk on my own around the block listening to Jimi hendrix, such a surreal experience. Am i really in laos?! When i got back it was time to meet the girls for dinner so we left and began walking to green discovery. As we approached we only saw Aggy and she said that Fleur wasn't feeling very well so missed out on dinner so we headed to the indian that me and dan went to with bob on the first night. As we were reading the menu there was a male voice behind me saying "excuse me excuse me, you're so beautiful with your glasses on. Where are you from?" A yank was hitting on Aggy which gave me the giggles, he wouldn't shut up about how nice she looked with her glasses, and then a passer by joined in and said the same to take the piss, i was in hysterics. We all got tikka masala and naan bread and after we finished we hugged Aggy goodbye and headed back to the guesthouse so we could get some sleep before our 08:00am bus to Don Det the following morning.
