A busy day of travel unfolded with minimal issues. A ferry, a bus and 4 trains, needed to get to our new destination of Lucerne, 2 trains more than the direct route so we could visit the Swiss Valley Knife centre in Brunnen along the way.
The Swiss rail system is a delight , though the long haul trains have limited legroom (they make the Wairarapa trains look spacious), but we are travelling 2nd class, so I guess the first class is better. The regional trains have lots of room, so no complaints there.
At the Swiss Valley knife centre we saw some really old knives, some huge poclet knives and some tiny ones about 5mm long. The kids had planned to buy a pocket knife each - Scott chose a blue one and Sarah a pink one, as April already had one she decided a good kitchen knife was actually a better option for her.
We eventually arrived at our accomodation (an air bnb a 2 minute train ride from the town centre) at 6:30pm - a little weary. Our only mistake today was assuming we would be able to buy groceries at a supermarket. We found that none of the 5 supermarkets en route were open, due to it being a Sunday.
Fortunately our accomodation was 50m from a restaurant, so with not much choice we headed down for a meal. As it turned out this restaurant was known to make the best wood fired pizza in central Switzerland. Made by an Italian from Sicily it was like nothing we had ever tried before - absolutely incredible. The menu was in Swiss, so Darryl picked a pizza only because he recognised the word Salami - but it was an awesome choice. A combination of Ricotta and mozarella, tomato and salami , folded inside a pizza dough - sensational.Complimentary liqueurs were a lovely finish to the meal and a nice way to end the evening.
Scott: I bought a blue pocket knife that is see through. It has lots of different tools like knives and tin openers. I used the tweezers to get a splinter out of my hand.
Sarah: My pocket knife is really small. It is pink and has a pair of scizzors that work really well.
