We decided to get out of Stanthorpe for New Year and however much we wanted to be in Sydney it was just too far. So we travelled to Brisbane and enjoyed an excellent night. Mike liked the breakdancers and Amy liked the fireworks! We are staying in the city for a week before journeying back to Sunny Stanthorpe (yeah right!)
Christmas was quiet (unsuprisingly). We spent the morning with a few friends on the campsite and then took up an offer from a young English couple, Kev and Emma, to join them at the park. So we enjoyed a barbie (no shrimps!) in the sun - sort of. It was warm but quite cloudy.
This wonderful weather prompted us to hurridly find somewhere other than Stanthorpe to be for New Year. Amy has been enjoying the warmth here in Brisbane. No need for her hot water bottle at night!
We had a few weeks work doing a bit of weeding, harvesting and planting with lettuces and spinach and such things. This turned out to be a very handy job - we "borrowed" a christmas tree-shaped lettuce and decorated it outside our tent!
As you can see from the photos, we found HELLMANNS!!!! And it actually tastes the same! We had a little problem when we found Heinz mayo, in that it was actually Salad Cream in a mayonnaise jar. How very strange!
The new site in Brsbane is only 4km from the city and our tent site is next to a Frangipani Tree which allows Amy to wear fresh flowers in her hair everyday :)
New Years Eve we went to a massive event sponsored by Streets ice cream (Wall's to all you English people). There was swing dance lessons, latino party, 80's disco, a ferris wheel, massive TV showing Narnia, She's the Man and The Dukes of Hazzard, break dancing, fire dancers and fireworks. The have a man-made beach on the riverside, with real sand and those lifegaurds in the hilarious red and yellow outfits. We really enjoyed the night. The night before we found ourselves a nightclub to spend the night in (there are no night clubs in Stanthorpe...need I say more) so it was great to let our hair down and DO something.
We have been shopping in the city and Mike has found a gaming internet cafe where he can play away on RF Online, thanks to Aaron who sent the game to him. (I must be really bad company!)
Love Amy and Mike x
