Miffy's Mischievous Adventures
Hi all,
Well, what have I been up to for the last month? NOT A LOT !! and it has been great....
I've spent 29 days in Indonesia and I've treated this time like a holiday before heading to Oz and doing some work. The weather has be awesome, it just couldn't of been any better so the tan has come on nicely.
Within this time I did have time to learn to surf. I had a full day course which I took over two days. Surfing is amazing however such hard work. No wonder all the Ozzies that are in Kuta are rippled! I got on pretty well in the first half of my first lesson so got promoted to go out further into the sea and catch bigger waves. I'd picked up how to stand up on the surf board pretty quickly but the art to surfing is being able to catch the wave! Even getting out to the waves!! This is very difficult. On the surfing course there was three top lads from Leeds that I then hung about with for the next three weeks.
After a week of relaxing and catching a few waved we all decided to complete a dive off the north east coast of bali. The dive site was called Tulamben. Tulamben is a wreck dive and the wreck was a Second World War U.S Navy Ship called U.S. Liberty which was sunk by a Japanese submarine missile. This was a good day and we complete two dives. The first was going around the perimeter of the vessel and on the second dive we penetrated it.
The lads and I also decided after two and a half weeks of relaxing, surfing, sunbathing, diving, eating and drinking decided that it would be a good idea to have a culture day. This day involved the magnificent royal family temple of Taman Ayun, Pacung (a plantation with mount batukaru in the background), Ulun Danu Bratan Temple, Alas Kedaton in the monkey forest and finally the The Marine Temple of Tanah Lot to watch the sunset. The funny thing was that the only day that the weather wasn't amazing was this day. The monsoon followed us all day so we got totally soaked, thus why I don't have many pictures. I only other thing I should mention is that a tree fell down and very nearly hit this woman! She was so lucky.... were the main trunk split into two big branches, was where she went though! She was shaken but ok. If the trunk had hit her it would be pretty fair to say she would of been a goner - and to think the boys and I were standing there only thirty second earlier!
After the boys left, Julie flow into town which was cool. We sun bathed and what not for a couple of days before we decided to move from Kuta and visit the Gili's Isles which are beautiful little paradise Islands off the coast of Lombok. Please see 'Lombok' journal entry for what we got up too. Coming to you soon.
When we arrived back from the Gili's we decided that we would climb an active Volcano and watch the sunrise. This was a great day out but getting up at 01:30 in the morning to leave wasn't that pleasant. The climb up the volcano was pretty easy and straight forward and the sunrise was very beautiful. After the volcano we saw the craters and then cooked eggs in the soil which was cool. They tasted good too! We then started to make our way down and on to our next stop which was the hot springs.
The hot springs were lovely and the water was straight from the volcano. I was so surprised at how hot the water was but it was so nice to relax your muscles after trekking for five or so hours. We stayed there for a couple of hours chilling out before going to eat at an all you can eat restaurant with the most stunning view in the background. After this we headed back to Kuta but stop at this little coffee plantation. It was an amazing little place with grow all it own herds, spices and fruits. It produced it own coffee which we were allowed try. I tried the lemon tea which was just out of this world! I would of bought some but I was flying out of bali the next day and could well do without going through immigration with a bag of white powder in my rucksack!
My last day in Bali didn't go as planned due to an unfortunate accident. I'd packed all my guy and stored it in the room that Julie was going to staying in once I left ready to leave that night. Jules was going to finish off her surfing lesson as she still had some time to use. She wanted me to see if I could take a picture of her standing up on the board before I went surfing for the last time in Bali. About five minutes into her lesson and the third time she had got up for a few moments and then fallen off, she was injured. To cut a long story short we had to get an ambulance to the hospital and after a few hour it was discovered that she had fractured her leg and it was put in a cast. Her x-rays were being set to a specialist and the doctor seemed to think that she was going to require an operation. So it was a bit of a race against time as she was in loads of pain, basically immobile and staying on the second floor! So my last few hours were trying to help JUles out as much as I could and in the end I managed to find her a new place to stay with no stairs or steps and moved all her stuff. Unfortunately I could do more.......!!!
All in all I loved my time in Bali. Relaxing and sun sunbathing on the beach, surfing, drinking the beautiful big Bingtan's chilling out in Fat Yogi's with the lads watching sport and dvd's, going to new restaurants every now and then, drinking the fish bowl's on nights out etc etc. My time was a little marred by wallet being stolen but on this rollercoaster ride you some learn that nothing is ever straight forward and you earn to live with it.
Anyway, bye for now
