Our final port of call and what a revelation. After doing our final batch of laundry, Barb and I met Rob and Lin in reception and trundled off to the shuttle bus into town. The weather was cool, 12 degrees, and damp. The drive in was pleasant enough after we left the port area. We drove past fields of vegetables and were dropped off in town.
The town is small with narrow streets and pretty painted buildings. We walked towards the town square and stopped for a hot chocolate each. The cost was €4 for all four of us. Back on the road and we saw the cathedral up some steps. It’s a pretty yellow and white building and the altar was stunning. Then we carried on down to the small sea front and marina. By this time the weather had taken a turn for the worse. So we stopped off for a beer. Scott and Luke were in there, so they joined us. Four of us had a beer and the two L’s had hot chocolate. I was expecting a small beer and got half a litre.
On the way back to the bus we saw the spires of a church that were amazing blue and white chevrons. Both Rob and I had a haircut in town. €7 each! We called in at the first cafe again where Rob and I had a glass of red wine and the girls had yet another hot chocolate. A good day in port despite the lousy weather.
It was the Big Pub Quiz in Champion’s and we won! 27/30. It helped that the last five questions were song lyrics and we had Linda on the team. We beat the Dark Destroyers team and I marked their paper. It’s probably the only time I’ll mark a professional quizzers paper. Up in the Syndicate Quiz, Shaun stepped in as question master. He was, as you’d expect, very good and moved it along at a decent clip. We scored 10/20 and the winners weren’t table 39!
