Arrived around 8:30. Sunny but cool and breezy. I put on long trousers but after breakfast I changed into shorts.
Today we all went on a P&O excursion called 'Tassie Taste Temptations'. We drove along the Bass Highway, through a town called Penguin (fairy penguins nest nearby), where the bins all have penguins on them, to a small chocolate factory called House of Anvers. This was started by a Belgian in the early '90's. All the chocolate here is hand made. We had chocolate cake and hot chocolate to drink. Very nice, very rich, very filling and far too much. We then saw them making Easter eggs and tried the free samples in the shop.
Back on the bus to the Cherry Shed. Here we had lunch, all of half an hour after Elevenses. As you can tell by the name it was a cherry produce place. The season was over about a fortnight ago. So we never saw any cherries as such, but we did try various cherry products such as cherry port, cherry liqueur, chilli cherry preserve and raspberry liqueur (!).
Then it was off to Ashgrove Cheese Factory. Unfortunately, they weren't making cheese today as they were supposed to have had a new power line fitted. This factory specialises in English style cheeses. We tried various samples including Wasabi Cheddar (OMG, so good) and a divine Mature Cheddar.
Totally stuffed, it was on to the last stop. Christmas Hill Berry Farm. They specialise in berries, somewhat surprisingly. Raspberries in particular, but also blackberries and strawberries. Guess what? More free samples! The best of which were the chocolate covered raspberries. Absolutely delicious. We then strolled round their lake and up to the poly tunnels where the raspberries and blackberries were growing.
A brilliant day that I really enjoyed. Tasmania, from what I've seen, is well worth a return visit. Because of the type of excursion, Barbara, Rob, Linda and I decided to eat in the Horizon restaurant. It was Thai night. All six of us then did the 9:30 quiz. I don't know how we did, as Rob and I went to the theatre to see Micky Zany before a drink in the Crow's Nest.
Not long after we left Burnie the weather turned wet and windy. It's going to be a choppy night I think.
