First port day of the cruise, Funchal in Madeira. Aida Blu, Thomson Majesty and CMV Marco Polo were also docked. Barbara, Rob, Linda and I had booked a tour with a local company. We first visited a local market, then we went to Camara de Lobos, a fishing village, with a small harbour. There we saw cod drying on a boat and visited the local church. Very small, very ornate inside and the Nativity crib was still there.
After that, we drove to the second highest sea cliffs in Europe, at Cabo Girao. Stunning views and there was a glass walkway 580 metres above sea level. We then returned to the ship via a supermarket.
After lunch Rob, Barbara and I took the cable car to Monte, where we visited the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens. Not very tropical and very hilly. Because of the time, we took a cab back to the ship.
Back on board, it was 60's/70's night. We won the 60's quiz, by quite a substantial margin. This means we now have a bottle each of red, white and rose for tomorrow's formal night.
