Today we woke up at 11:00 packed our bags and left to go to Penang island!
We left our rucksacks in the guesthouse in Chinatown as we're only away for a week in Penang and then Cameron Highlands on the way back so we just took a hold all bag! So much easier! Our rucksacks are such a burden I swear there's 50 bricks in it!
We got the bus at 12:30 which took 5 hours! The bus was the nicest one we've travelled on, only three chairs per row and all reclining! Living the life of luxury for us!
We got off the bus at Butterworth which is mainland Malaysia so we could take the ferry across to Penang! The bus went over the bridge and in the wrong direction so a taxi back up would have been more expensive than the 40p 15 minute ferry ride! And from the jetty we only walked 3 blocks, which takes a good 20 minutes here and to our guesthouse on Love Lane!
This is just somewhere our guesthouse recommended as its the same price for a similar set out room! When we checked in the receptionist told us to eat Red China food court! It was so cute! They have every nationality of food you could want all set around a pergola in the centre as a stage where there's Chinese singers, Yodelling!! It's all lit up with red coloured lanterns, there's a live pianist and the different food smells and BBQ grills are amazing!
We tried Chicken Briyani which is just japanese fried rice but it comes in a cute little hot pot with a few miniature popadoms! So cute! You can get unusual food here too the most original was an edible box made of bread crumbs filled with different types of seafood, it's all too nice I couldn't decide what to have!
I guess this is why Penang is food for food! We got back to the guesthouse after 11 and the wifi had been switched off so no talking to anyone! This always makes me feel so isolated and homesick! :(
Showered in the freezing cold water with 2 cockroaches, 7 different fungai growing on the walls and 15 diseases! And did I mention that we still don't have a towel? So I have to dry myself with an old t-shirt! Not ideal!
