To Bogota, the capital of Colombia, where I arrived on Monday evening. The eight million people do not enjoy the best of weather with lots of rain and heavy cloud as the city sits at a very high altitude of 2600m, something I was reminded of as I became very breathless jogging through the streets .
The residents of this city are fiercely proud ,as are all Colombians. They have been through a lot in their history, most recently a series of civil wars, the birth of various paramilitary groups and the development of the cocaine trade with all of the violence and bloodshed it brought with it.
Only a few years ago Bogota would have been considered dangerous with drug gangs shooting each other on the streets but it is now a very safe, welcoming and beautiful city. As a result Bogota and the whole country are growing and developing fast and the world's image of it is generally pretty outdated. Those foreign companies and individuals who are investing here are doing extremely well.
