Less exciting than the end of my last entry leads you to believe. The ride to Barrytown was uneventful apart from 2 flat tires. One for Neil and one for myself.
I left Niel in Greymouth and headed off to find my warmshowers accommodation for the night at the home of Temiko and Wolfgang Jäger. Find the small road and the significant climb I arrived just in time for Wolfgang to offer me the best coffee I have had in New Zealand. (Kiwis brag about how good their coffee is but it is just average and expensive!).
For anyone into green/sustainable living the house is pretty amazing and Wolfgang built it himself. Water is all collected from rainwater harvesting, heating including hot water is done by a wood stove with a wet back, toilets are the non flush compost kind and they have massive lush gardens.
Temiko arrived about a half hour later and it was off for a hike to see something of the area. The first bit was well travelled while the second bit was beautifully void of any other tourists. With the ocean on one side and huge rock overhangs on the other we walked through lush vegetation and a shoreline filled with starfish, crabs, birds and penguin tracks. The whole area is where Wolfgang used to party in the 70s with the other hippies for days at a time.
Back to the house for a fantastic prawn curry and a late night chatting. All in all a pretty cool experience.
