Mich Goes Walk About
After the Whitsundays sailing, i headed straight down the east coast towards Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay was nice and quiet, which was a relief after Airlie Beach. I went on a 3 day self drive 4X4 trip to Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, or that maybe just oz I forget! Before we went the whole group (30, split into 3 cars with 10 in each) had a briefing from an old Aussie guy who told us we were all going to die, or come back in a helicopter because its so dangerous over there! He's objecvtive was no doubt to scare us into be sensible and it worked. Once we hit Fraser Island, Martin an Irishman was behind the wheel. He turned out to be the most annoying lazy f**kwit i've eve met. He drove like a mad man over the bumps and holes, i still have a nice big green lumpy bruise on my leg! So i soon took over the driving, much to everyones relief. The weather was crap for the first two days, so we opted not to strip off and swim in Lake McKenzie, we saved that for the last day. The dingoes were everywhere. Especially on the second night when we camped on the beach and they surronded the camp as they could smell the food (i cooked all the meals on a camp fire...just call me Mrs Jamie Oliver...pucka!). We were all in one van playing drinking games (G'Day Bruce..what a good game!), so didn't notice that they stole a heap of food until the morning! Flaiming Dingoes! Managed to see a view humpback whales making their trip up north, also saw a pod of Dolphins and a shark in the water! The final day was a bit sunnier so we all went for a swim in Lake McKenzie, a large fresh water lake. Its was freezing, but we were all grateful for a little wash after 3 days of camping in the wet and the sand!
