Such a quiet night and peaceful sleep. We are up for a walk along the promenade and Glenn wants a swim. We can do all that because we only have a short drive to return Harvey. While Glenn is swimming I am watching the pods of dolphins cruising along the coast only about 50 metres offshore. So graceful and playful. Dropping off Harvey is almost as inefficient as it was picking him up. It's not the fault of the drop off staff, but once again the misinformation given to us by the Chicago people leaves us with out the included shuttle service to the airport. We weren't too fussed as we were intending to pick up a hire car anyway so we could get around during the day. We got onto a company 4 miles away and they would come and pick us up from the RV place and take us and all our luggage to organise the vehicle. We say goodbye to Harvey, it should be said that he will not have people who loved him and respected him as much as we have. Goodbye Harvey xxx. Our new car is a Chrysler Town and Country SUV. Her name is Chrissy and she is beautiful. She is fully automated including opening of the back doors and the boot. Our first destination is Santa Monica Pier to touch and take photos of the end of Route 66. It's a very smooth ride to Santa Monica. We park and walk to the pier and there it is. The end of our 2870 mile journey, about 4819 kilometres. ! Photos done. So many people are having their photos taken but not too many them have actually driven the route. It's a beautiful day, the clouds have lifted and the sun is warm. It's lunchtime so we go to Bubba Gumps on the pier. Great lunch, best salad. Pear and berry, with fresh raspberries and strawberries and pear. Yum. After lunch we walk to the end of the pier enjoying the relaxed holiday atmosphere on a Thursday??? We have all done a bit of shopping so we need to buy another bag. It's one of those things that we had plenty of opportunity to do but did not want to think about it. We leave Santa Monica to find a shopping centre. OMG you should see the traffic. Both sides of the road, bumper to bumper. Imagine doing this everyday. Phew! Yah we found a Westfield so bag is purchased and we have re packed. All weights are checked and we are good to go. We now head to drop off Chrissy and then a shuttle to airport. It's now 7.05pm.
