Today was a windy day but nothing like yesterday. We had a short 35 mile day which gave us time to stop at Elephant Seal Beach and then again in San Simeon. Lots of Elephant seals basking on the beach. We passed by the Hearst Mansion which was closed. We are staying at Hearsr San Simeon State Park. Today was a disjointed day. It started out very windy with gale force winds due to arrive around 11 am. By that time we had about 20 miles covered when the wimds really began to pick up. One ride was slammed into a guardrail and damaged his derallieur. The leaded called for us to be picked up. Today was one of our easier rides. A little more than 42 miles and about 2,000 feet of elevation. We rode on a lot of bike trails and stopped in at a bike store in Santa Cruz. I replaced my tires with Specalized Armadillos we are more impervious to punctures. When we arrived at our camping destination the rangers were difficult to deal with. They made us wait until 4 for check in and would only allow some of us to camp in the hiker/biker site. The majority ...

Today was a fun ride into Monterey. The trail took us inland where we saw many farms. Broccli, lettuce, avacados, brussel sprouts, kale, and several types of green vegetables were grown in the fields around us. The farm roads were rough but it was much better than riding along Pacific Highway 1. We are staying in a large group campsite at the Veterans State Campground.

This morning we left a windy and cool San Francisco. We had several navigation issues getting out of the city. We found our way out and on to highway 1. There were several hills and one long tunnel. Fortunately the tunnel had a wide shoulder. We are at a KOA campground ronight which is close to the beach.
