Today turned out to be a chaotic day. Right out of camp our navigation took us to a blocked off road. We traveled on blocked roads before so we thought we were okay. It was a gravel road which took us past a golf course to another gate which we have to carry our bike over. We then passed a remote house that had a big black dog that chased after Laura. Luckily it was friendly when it caught up to her. We continued past a third gate where the road narrowed but opened into a large field with several campers. Past them was a large hill that we climbed to see where we were. It was the road to nowhere so we reversed direction. We ended up back at the camp where we started one hour later and exhausted from the venture.
Our sweep was just leaving camp so we traveled with him. The sky was sunny and things were good until the wind picked up. We found ourselves in a 20 mph headwind with gusts to 30 mph. It was a draining 20 miles or so. After gettimg blown to a standstill several times and off the pavement twice we called for van support. While waiting I started to adjust my brakes and a nice man stopped to see if we needed help. He said he was from Alaska and they always stop to help each other. The wind continued to pick up and we had heavy rain all night.
