Chilling out in a surf resort has luckily given me time to get a load more photos updated, so sorry if its a bit of overkill at the min!

This album is from our last few days in Bolivia, which has been a fantastic country. Although its the poorest in South America the people are generally friendly and helpful and although its beginning to get touristy its not as thrust in your face as it is in Peru making it a far nicer experience than constantly fending off dodgy tour touts and people trying to sell you crap all the time.

We only had a 3 hour journey to get to the lake from La Paz, which is amazing in this place, however we weren´t quite expecting the lake crossing transport! very amusing watching them push buses on to rafts and then with one small outboard motor very slowly somehow steer the thing accross!

Cocapabana is the main town on the Bolivian side of the Lake and was described to us as a peaceful chilled out place what we must have missed in the small print was the "not on the 2nd and 3rd of May as they like to drink, dance, drink a bit more, dance some more and oh you´ve guessed it do the same again for the next 48 hours.

Not once while we were there did the bands stop playing or any of the costumes get bedraggled! Thousands of people had desended on the place and all seemed to be dressed in groups that must have represented different towns. They marched for hours round the town up to the main square and then they would go in the church to give thanks (something to do about worshiping llamas and their herders) and then come back out to carry on. Day 2 they just did the same route in reverse! and others that weren´t dancing or marching were busy dressing their cars up to get them blessed and the que went round half the town, very bizarre but great to watch as a google eyed Gringo.

Unfortunately Chris got food poision here so he was laid up for a day or so but we still had time to get a boat out to stay on one of the islands in the middle of Lake Titicaca. We went to a very small steep island called the Isle del sol as apparently its where one of the first Inca founders decided the sun was born from (and conviently the one next to it was where the moon came from) and so they had built a temple and Inca settlement which they would then go on pilgramages too.

I thought the staircase was more impressive than the temple and that the village at the top had barely changed since the Incas were there, only cobbled paths and mud huts really make the place up and the donkey population certainly outweighted the human one! So we spent our most peaceful night of the trip in this tiny place before getting up for sunrise and the boat back.

Next stop Peru....
