Goodbye Iceland... It's been fun!
As I'm typing this I am sitting on a plane on my way to Amsterdam. Meghan and I took off at 8:00 this morning and now are going to go see some of the sites that Amsterdam has to offer. We will only be there for a day and a half because we take off to Paris on Friday morning.
Anyways... More about the time in Iceland!
As I mentioned in my last blog post, the weather would change in a matter of minutes, and one day it even snowed! The snow was actually quite beautiful and there was not much wind, so it was nice. I told Meghan she has experienced all the weather of Iceland in a week - wind, snow, rain and sun! Despite the rain and wind and snow for he first bit of our stay there, the last two days in Reykjavik were gorgeous! The sun came out and the weather was great!
On the weekend, we took in a bit of the nightlife scene and also has dinner cooked for us by a head chef at one of the restaurants. Knutur's friend Johannes, the chef, partied with us on Friday and Knutur was telling us how great a chef he is, and then he offered to make us dinner at his place the next night. Obviously we had to take him up on the offer. And the food was AMAZING! Mmmm... So good! I asked Johannes if he'd marry me and come back to Canada and cook for me all the time - his answer: "You can't afford me." Darn! (You would have asked him to marry you too if you tasted the meal and desserts he made!)
On Monday, Knutur drove Meghan and I around the Golden Circle, which is basically a day trip in the area near Reykjavik. The Golden Circle had three main sights to see: Thingvellir, which is where the original parliament was located and the location of many historical events, Geysir, which is a geyser - however the larger geyser Geysir doesn't go off as often so we didn't see it but we saw Strokkur, and Gulfoss, a beautiful waterfall. When we got to Thingvellir, the weather was gorgeous so for quite a while we just sat and relaxed by a waterfall and soaked up the sunshine. It was perfect, especially since the last time I saw the Golden Circle it was pouring rain. So much nicer this time!
And last night I met Hjalti, a relative of mine who lives in Keflavik. Hjalti showed Meghan and I around the area and took us to a lighthouse in Gardur. Such a beautiful view! And it was great to finally meet you, Hjalti!
Well the plane is about to land, time to find my way to the hostel!
Love from Iceland/Amsterdam!
