Oh Iceland! How I have missed you!
Well we have been in Reykjavik for three days now, and it's been a pretty relaxing few days. Meghan and I have wandered around downtown Reykjavik quite a bit, went to the Pearl (its a building here that is built between three water tanks, and at the top they have a balcony all around so you can have a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. I love the view from up there.), visited the National Gallery of Iceland, went to the flea market, and have taken advantage of the nightlife!
The weather is.. Well.... It's Icelandic weather. It's been chilly and rainy and windy. Today it even snowed quite a bit throughout the day! But, luckily for Meghan and I, we're tough Manitobans and can handle this weather, so it's not so bad. And like I said, its Iceland! That's just the way it is here. And it changes at the blink of an eye. Yesterday morning it was pretty clear out, so Knutur dropped Meghan and I off at the Pearl. As we were there, the sky started getting darker, and we decided to head back into downtown. As we were walking back, we could tell it was pouring in the distance. A few short minutes later, the wind picked up like crazy and it began raining pretty good on us. But it quickly passed over, and a short while later the sky was clearing up again.
So yesterday, Meghan and I were wandering around after we visited the National Gallery, and all of a sudden Meghan saw people dressed up as smurfs. Then, a few minutes later, we saw a bunch of people dressed in rabbit costumes, then some in fat cheerleader costumes. They were all over! At one point, a group dressed as rabbits stripped down to their underwear and posed for a picture, then put their costumes back on. We could not figure out what as going on. Eventually we overheard a group telling some other tourists that it was a scavenger hunt competition that was taking place between a bunch of different schools. It was pretty funny to see all these people dressed up and we kept seeing more costumes throughout the day. We also saw Mexican costumes, lifeguards, warrior princess style costume, pink monkey looking ones, Red Riding Hoods, and more.
Well it's off to dinner for us in a few minutes, so this is all for now!
Take care!
Mandy
