Any trip to the South Island wouldn't be complete without a visit to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand.

Surrounded by the snowy mountains of the Remarkables, Cecil Peak and Walter Peak around lake Wakatipu, our arrival as the sun set in Queenstown was stunning. We followed this with dinner of a 'Ferg Burger' which is a local food institution, even getting a gluten free bun for Bee.

The first morning started early with a jet boat ride on the freezing lake and into both the Kawarau and Shotover rivers. Bundled up in our waterproof overcoats we all boarded the boat and given instructions in holding on when the driver gave the signal for a 360° spin, and off we shot, squeals rang out as we appeared to be heading straight for trees, bridges and buoys, only missing them by what felt like millimetres! The spray from the boat as we went into the spins was like ice cold needles on our faces.

As if this wasn't enough adrenaline for the day we had booked a Bungy jump for the afternoon. This was something Bee had never ever wanted to try, but when we saw we could do this as a tandem jump together from the original Kawarau Bridge Bungy, we thought this was the only way to try and conquer this fear, as Tim could just jump and take her with him!

After getting checked in and our weights written in permanent marker on our hands, we found out that, we couldn't jump together after all. The difference between our weights was too great, and Bee's ankles wouldn't have survived the jump. We were going to have to do this separately or not at all (as went through Bee's mind on a constant loop until it was over!)

Arriving at the bridge there was solid ice on the ground and the gorge was in shade giving it a foreboding atmosphere. The walk out to the platform seemed to take forever (one step forward, two steps back....).

Towels tied around ankles and the Bungy cord attached, Bee was up first, and inching to the very edge of the platform took some convincing...... and off she went, with huge screams towards the river. It was utterly terrifying! Video footage to come shortly….

Tim jumped off with much more enthusiasm, and wanted to immediately go and try a higher one!
