The long flight from Santiago was helped by a couple of drinks and a movie or two, we arrived into New Zealand at 4.30 am, so the city was still asleep. Weirdly due to crossing time zones, we would never have the 22nd May 2013, forever to be known as the day that never was!
It felt great to be back in an English speaking country, lot's of people had told us to get out of Auckland as soon as possible but we wanted to at least see what it had to offer.
In what must be a first for us we'd actually booked a hostel well ahead of time. We had to wait a couple of hours for the rest of the hostel to wake up but as it turned out we'd made a great choice. There was a real buzz around the place and a night out with some of the people staying there helped us to make some new friends.
We went with our new friends on the ferry the following day to Waiheke island. We spent the day visiting the various wineries the island had to offer. This gave Bee her first opportunity to try a gluten free pizza, it turns out NZ was going to be a great place for gluten free options! After lunch we tried our hand at Archery with Bee thrashing Tim much to his annoyance. We got to watch the most amazing sunset while enjoying our final wine tasting, as it turned out, Auckland really wasn't as bad as people had made out.
The next day we (Tim) took our sore heads back into town to find our new home for the next six weeks. There was a huge selection of Vans on offer. Everything from small two person 'Spaceships', great looking graffiti strewn Escape vans to shiny new Jucy camper vans. After a bit of haggling given the time of year, we opted for the Jucy van. It slept 4 people so there was a ton of space and it featured a full equipped kitchen so we could cook up a storm!
