Today we went into town and had some morning tea at a little cafe and then did a bit of shopping. After that we went up to Cook's Monument. Captain James Cook was the first European to map the east Australian coast. We went down onto the beach to where he landed in the year 1770 (that's how the town got it's name). We spent most of the day in the car. Stopped at Rockhampton for lunch and then kept going another 2 1/2 hours to a town called 1770. The caravan park is right on the beach. It's a lovely spot, very busy, but has a very friendly vibe.

The car went in early this morning and we decided to have a swim while we waited. We weren't sure when we would be able to head off, but fortunately for us, just as we finished packing up the tent the car was ready and we were able to get on the road around lunch time. The car needs to get fixed again so we headed off on foot to the shops. Paddy, Nick and Cal got a hair cut - Yes, that's right Callan got a HAIRCUT! The bad news is that they need to get a part for the car so we will need to stay an extra night. We headed back to the caravan park and picked up the car for the afternoon. This morning Callan and Nick went fishing. Just after they left it started pouring rain - again! This made for quite an uneventful morning. Lots of water and no fish. In the afternoon the weather had cleared so we walked the boardwalk from Cannonvale to Airlie Beach. We enjoyed looking at all the boats in the marina and imagining what it would be like if they were ours.
