Right ok, so basically I'm currently in Phuket its 10:30 in the morning and i've been up nearly an hour... mental. Went and had a truly "thai" experience this morning by getting a starbucks... The shops don't open till 11 so hence why i'm finally updating this blog. I've been incredibly lazy with it. I'd claim to have been crazy busy but thats not it, its just once you get behind with all thats going on it gets a bit of an effort but i'm having an active morning so this is getting done now!
I left it like 11 days ago in Thong Nai Pan where all was rather beautiful and it seems a long time ago. England were getting dicked in the rugby but that was of no concern to me really. We went out both the Saturday (not everyone) still beating a few illnesses however the next night after eating very well again we went to the same bar. We've all been drinking buckets cause it works out very cheap and kills you. Unfortunately James got more in his bucket then he bargained for and we had to spend a few hours getting him set and putting him to bed. Holloway and I returned to the bar but not for too long. When I got back it was just getting daylight and I decided to get my camera and take in the sunrise. I sat alone for an hour taking photos (about 40). Some are actually good so will hit facebook when I get back to the UK.
We left the next morning (me on about 3 hours sleep) for an express boat to Koh Tao (about 90 minutes). WORST THING EVER. Sick as a dog off the back of the boat along with others. Was awful and the sea was fairly choppy. Got there thank god though. Got accomodation and chilled for the day. That night we got dinner and Tom and I went out with Charlotte (tom's gf) and other friends for their last night. Wasn't late but was fun and spent the next day chilling.
We spent a total of 4 days in Koh Tao so I will try to summerise it quickly. We did an entire day's snorkling. All except myself went out the night before as I wasn't feeling great. However Holloway and Mckee didn't make snorkling but the brave others sobered the f*** up and hit the boat. It was beautiful and well worth doing. However when we got back Charlie, Sophie, Emily and myself discovered very sunburnt backs (not fun).
In Koh Tao we saw quite a few people we knew and hung out with Shabbo, Faun, Collyear, the other barrett and dr. GRE one night. No sign of Chesterman (much to Ollie's disappointment). Funny night as well as we hit a few bars and generally got smashed.
For Ollie's last night before he headed up North we went for an amazing meal 6,000 baht (about 100 quid) between 8 of us but the food was amazing. We had a lads night out playing 50 in one of the bars (good game!) before some headed back and James and I went to watch Germany vs. Turkey. Alot of German supporters there so I supported Turkey (loudly). Didn't make many friends and Germany scored in the 89th minute which made one German fan throw a beer at me. Glads had slipped away without telling me so I was there alone facing a German advance (but as we all know they can't advance on the British and I think it was called off!) I got a pancake and stumbled home.
The day we went snorkling was also the day we left we had dinner at Bans (our favourite restaurant on the island) and got a night boat to Surat Thani. We all slept pretty well and it was about 9 hours long. We arrived and had about a 2 and a half hour bus to Krabi where we would stay. All passed without incident and we checked in at Krabi.
Rooms at Krabi were nice and had air conditioning. A welcome relief to the fact we didn't have any in Koh Tao. We spent 2 nights in Krabi chilling out, hitting the beach and going out. Unfortunately it was Holloway's turn to be ill and he was in the room for about 24 hours feeling a bit sorry for himself. Thankfully we had a TV and he was able to sleep some of it off. We went out (minus holloway) which were rubbish! The 6 of us hit a group of bars about 5 minutes from the hotel. Alot of fun and ran up a decent bar bill. We moved on and hit another bar.
The Euro final was on but nobody was really that interested in watching it. I made friends with an Irish guy (Kieth?!) I think and watched the game with him till about 3am before returning to the room. Next day was rubbish! We headed off to Phi Phi on a boat (about 90 minutes). Not as bad as the other one though. I sat quitely listening to my ipod and trying to sleep!
We arrived in Phi Phi which is beautiful but tourism has really cut into some of the beauty of the island unfortunately. We stayed about a 10 minute walk from where the boat landed. The rooms at first appeared to be easily the worst we'd stayed in. However the girls in a bungalow and us in 2 double rooms settled in. First night I think we got drunk and watched some Thai boxing which was amazing (video and pictures to follow) also at the end of the night James "the reach" Gadbury had a quick boxing match with some Aussie guy. It resulted in a No decision due to terrible technique on both parts. Funny night though.
We made a group decision to be more active in Phi Phi and not waste our time. This prompted us to book a kayaking, snorkling and sunset boat for the afternoon. It left at 2 which was perfect cause we were able to go out the night before. This was my favourite activity. It was a big boat with not many people and you could dive off the 2nd tear which was alot of fun. We hit monkey bay, where Mckee was surrounded by monkeys but gracefully stepped out of the situation. This has brought back the memory that Mckee managed to fall down our stairs and had a very sore ankle. In his defence these stairs were ridiculous and I wish I'd taken a picture!
Anyway back to the trip we kayaking into this one bay through about 1ft water and hit this lagoon type thing which was just stunning. After some snorkling as well which was beautiful we went to where they filmed The Beach. Holloway was very excited but no sign of Leonardo was a downer! After that we had some food and positioned for the sunset which was spectactular. All rather pleased we headed back in. We went for dinner but once again I was'nt well and headed back. The others had a great night out while I slept off the illness the next day was wasted but the day after we went fishing.
We went out in the afternoon but the weather was horrible (only bad day!) we didn't catch anying and our 'captain' was enjoying the bong and rolling joints. Some enjoyed the offering an the afternoon was amusing despite no fish. That night we went out big. Not 100 percent sure on anything as I got drunk and lost and phoned Pash (sorry buddy). Others went to the beach I think. Holloway made friends with Canadians (ooo Canadian friends!) The rest just ermm got on with things. Leave it at that!
Our final day there (yesterday) Glads booked scuba diving and left at 7am and we booked cliff jumping a more sociable 10am. Checked out we did our different activities. Glads said his scuba was good and our cliff jumping was alot of fun. Mckee jumping 18m into the water the rest of us doing 13, 10 or 8 which was alot of fun. Had a quick snorkel headed to monkey bay again and back. Got a 2:30 boat over to Phuket. Boat was amazing, it was sunny and very calm. A few boat beers later the weather in Phuket wasn't quite as nice. We got off and headed to Patong where Mckee had been before and chekced into the same hotel he was in before.
Its 5 quid a night per person and the rooms are amazing for the price (will take a picture of them). Last night Emily unfortunately hasn't been very well and it kinda fell apart with nobody going out. Mckee and I had a walk around to see it all but headed back for an early one. Hopefully tonight will be different. There are so many prostitutes here, temptation is hard. The going rate is 1000 baht apparently. However less on this topic is more. Hopefully will update in Bangkok where it will nearly be Holloways birthday! Enjoy reading this if you have!
