At about 6am in the morning, the nice, relaxed bus journey came to an abrupt stop and everything went mad. The following happened in the space of 1 minute:
- The lights came on on the bus
- A Thai woman came upstairs shouting "Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi, Pengang etc..."
- We rushed off the bus, gathering all our stuff.
- Picked up our backpacks which had been dumped on the pavement.
- Noticed Ad sitting in a Tuk Tuk, thinking he was on his way to Penang. Instead - it was for Koh Phangan. He was rushed off the Tuk Tuk and we were thrown on.
- The Tuk Tuk accelerated away from the rest of the group (many of whom were also on their way to Koh Phangan).
We (me, Emma and Leo) eventually ended up at another bus. This one was full of locals and much smaller and less comfortable. After a couple of hours, we reached the dock and took a 2 hour ferry to Koh Phangan. It was an incredible journey surrounded by beautiful paradise islands. When we got to the island, we bartered (appaulingly) with a Tuk Tuk driver and arrived at the Bounty Resort. It was great - a swimming pool, a private beach, awesome staff.. there were also plenty of travellers from the UK and Oz.
Later that night, we took a cab to Haadrin for the world famous Full Moon Party. Easily the best party I've ever been to - it was a fantastic night. We got there at 10pm and the beach was packed with over 10,000 people. Every 100 metres there was a bar or a club blaring out great music - mainly drum and bass/electronic etc. We each bought a bucket of alcohol(mine was a red bull, lemonade and a whole bottle of vodka) for 150 Baht - thats about 2 and a half quid. Until 3 in the morning, I danced with beautiful thai women and others from all over the world.
Finally, we tried to get a cab home. It was a nightmare - our place, the BOunty Resort, is on the other side of the island to the party. After a while enough people got on for them to take us all that way. We spent next 45 minutes travelling at terrifying speeds in a cab ,which is essentially a large tuk tuk - no windows or back. Passengers sit on the sides holding desperately onto the bars. When full, some have to just perilously cling on to the rails on the back of the cab, hanging outside of the cab.
