So our final destination and 13th country was Bali, after a night stop over in KL where we caught up with Ferdi and picked up all our things. So, we had a good flight from Vientiane to Phnom Penh and had a smooth process to obtain a Cambodian visa. We then got a taxi from the airport and our first impression was that it was like all the other places we have visited in Asia - pretty sprawling, hundreds of motorbikes on dusty roads and lots and lots of people. So we ended up flying with Lao Airlines to Luang Prabang in Laos which did not please me as we had bought tickets with Vietnam Airlines (who we like and have flown with many times before) and not an airline that has a bad safety record and which is banned from entering European airspace! BUT saying all that, the flight in a propellor plane was ok (although I swear both the pilot and co-pilot were out of the c*** pit at the same time on one occasion) and we arrive...

From Hoi An we took a crap bus with no air con to Hue, which thankfully was only a 3.5 hr journey. The scenery was ok but it allowed us to see just how badly they drive here. Our bus couldn't get up any hills and went at a snail pace, motorbike drivers know no road rules at all and just drive anywhere they wish and the use of the horn is so over the top - it says 'I'm behind you so don't pull out', 'i'm behind you so pull in' 'I'm here- thought you'd like to know...

So we left Sandakan and had an ok flight over to KL and then a few hours to wait at the airport where we had lunch (our first McDonalds in about 6 months) and then a bit of looking around the very few shops before getting the flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and the start of our Vietnam Adventure.
