The Santa Clara Sofitel is know for it El Coro Lounge. We stop in for some martinis, wine, frozen concoctions in hopes we bump into the novelist & screenwriter Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Love in the Time of Cholera, Of Love and other Demons) lives next to the Santa Clara and frequents El Coro. Very cool spot to hang out w/ low sofas, candle lights in a monastery meets Havanna club vibe. Lyn says don't try the Lychee martini..I like it. The bartender permits us to access the tombs uncovered beneath ElCoro's stone floor. The Sofitel discovered a burial area...likely for the padres/sisters in the convent. Nothing like a cocktail in a crypt !
We've all had a minor bout with stomach cramps...must have been slipped some bad ice or ceviche. Everyone is lanquishing a bit. Dinner is a quick walk through town to a place - El Bistro. German owned bistro style menu on a chalkboard. On the way, some guy evidently jumps off a stoop and runs at Katie, so she's a bit flipped out ( I didn't see it as I was too engrossed in the confusing street directions on the map from the concierge ). There is high security w/ police on every block, but the damage is done from some young adolescents who just gave Lyn & Katie reason to not feel safe. Katie won't eat...wants to go back. Too bad. El Bistro is charming in a unique hodge podge yard sale and art studio way. Lyn & Ash share a Lomo ( steak) , I have a langostino ( large prawn ) dish, and Jenny has a grillled chicken salad. First time no dessert - tiramisu & coconut pie each night til now. *** Note - Like many smaller restaurants, no credit cards...so always take cash. We hustle home and retire. Lesson : Don't take for granted 4 womens' sense of insecurity or it'll be an early night in.
