3 hours into the flight and i'd already watched Family Guy, other random programmes and polished near as damn it a full bottle of red plonk. During the flight with the really nice aeroplane chicken casserole I sat next to an Aussie dude who worked in London, he still had another 12 hours ahead of him once I landed, poor b******!
I then tried watching American but it's the longest film ever, then fell asleep only then to be woken by the air stewardess telling me to pull my blind down as mine was the only one up and it was the brightest sun ever felt. I can see why she asked me as it was lighting up the whole plane. It was weird, just dead silence like a morgue. Anyway, after learning the whol;e route we were taking due to the on board computer, like flying over Islamabad it was morning again after about 3 hours of nightime.
Eventually and finally, we landed in Bangkok, a touch on the sticky side, I got off the flight to then sort out my visa. After 2 wrong queues later I got through customs, got a weird fruit shake and waited for a legitimate taxi after being blagged off the dodgy ones. Finally, someone English in the queue in front of me, well I asked if she was English. Her reply "No Irish." I thought, "Right!"
The taxi ride was different, its like dodgems but they have pink taxis, like a tacky nail varnish pink! But in the meantime they decided that everyones luggage on the interconnecting flight had been left at Heathrow. Brilliant, no shorts, toiletries, anything!
Once I got to the hotel I dumped my hand luggage which only consisted of about 6 booksand headed of to Koah San Road. On the the off chance in the middle of Bangkok I'd bumped into Clare & Dave. What are the chances of that, but hey ho guess who I saw walking the other way, what a relief that was.
So I went and got some food, a chicken noodle dish for about 50p, wow! We then went for a few scoops with a bucket thrown in for good measure. Then at the end of the evening I was still a bit peckish so I grabbed some different noodles and got a tuk tuk home with the help of Clare & Dave's bartering skills. My god, what an experience of a journey that was. Racing with another tuk tuk whilst he was doing wheelies with a couple in the back of his. He also tried to sneak in a "You wanna go ping pong" I said "No, hotel."
Thing is though everybody's at it, always want, want, want! But hey that must be the joys of South East Asia. All I can say is this place is Bonkers!
