Left Byron for surfers paradise. Arrived at Stockport tourist beach in the afternoon to drizzle. Chilled out for the rest of the day. Woke up the next morning to the sound of racing cars so we followed our ears and found the race track. V8 600 was the main attraction with F4 and Australian pick ups also racing. Today we had our first surf lesson. Terry our eccentric teacher spent all day trying out his British accent which wasn't annoying at all. As I had already done surfing before he let me just get on with it when we found a beach with the right swell. With Terry's help Adam got up on his first go and rich took a bit longer but got there in the end. All tired from the day we took it easy in the evening with a film.

Made a short trip in the camper van to the Byron lighthouse and mostly easterly point on Australian mainland where there were some nice views. In the evening made the most of the €5 dinner at cheeky monkeys and stayed there for the night. I got dragged into being a contestant in a blind date competition on stage half way through the night. Today was the day of my scuba diving. Started at 9.30am we spent the first few hours at the pool learning basic skills such as clearing your mask etc. After this we made our way to Julien rocks, which took about 5minutes on very choppy water which made for a fun trip. When everyone was in the water we took hold of a line that took us to the bottom while equalising on the way down. The deepest our watch told us we were was 7.8m at a temperature of 21.
