Huge day for us. My phone with the help of Lorenzo woke me at 5:20am to see the sunrise. Lorenzo, Brecht and I walked halfway around the beach and waited, though the morning was as cloudy as last night. Lorenzo gave up and started to walk back. Brecht and I waited a few more minutes and were about to go when the sky lit up as if it was on fire. It was so spectacular I actually thought there may may a forest fire over the hill!
We had our breakfast of bread and jam and black coffee and headed off at 7am, across to Hazards Beach. The sun was out and we thought we'd swim in the cold sea while we had the chance. It was a long undulating walk back to the car park and we drove to another lookout for lunch.
It was then straight to the Bay of Fires to find a campsite and chill out for the rest of the day. The Bay of Fires is pretty impressive: the waves are crazy, the wind is strong and the rocks have a bright orange-red colour marked on them in certain places. I've no idea why, but the effect is beautiful.
Our evening menu was tinned spaghetti and beans on some kind of toast. The Italian Lorenzo loved the tinned spaghetti - I hope we haven't destroyed his cultural heritage! This was followed by Brie and red wine. Good times.
