Rain, rain, rain. Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain. Yes, ladies and gentleman, it's the wet season, and guess what? No irony here; it's wet. There was some irony yesterday, however, when it stopped raining long enough for me to take a shower in the morning. How convenient.
So, I'm in Cape Tribulation. It has been tsing solidly for the past 36 hours, during which time we've had about four times as much rain as London gets in one month. Not to be deterred, I took a walk to Cape Trib beach with my camera stowed away in a plastic bag to keep it dry. I took some "wet" shots and as of yesterday afternoon my camera is now on the blink. Yesterday afternoon I went with Raf and Cohen (explanation later) to the swimming hole that was dangerously overflowing due to the rain, then we had a quick night-walk through to jungle boardwalk to spot tree crabs and frogs. The whole place was underwater.
That was yesterday. The day before, I'd booked to go on a Cape Trib tour after my efforts to find some car-hire buddies had failed. We spotted three crocs and a tree snake on the river cruise, and not much on the semi-closed boardwalk. Arriving at PK's jungle village, it rained a bit and I met Raf and Cohen, two lads who were travelling with their own cars. We hit the beach in the evening, found coconuts, smashed them open and drank fresh coconut on the beach. Great stuff. We spent some time with an aboriginal family playing guitar and all was well. Then it started raining overnight. It hasn't really stopped since. So here we are. I'm waiting for my lift out of here, assuming the road is still passable. Fingers crossed...
