If you answered "to kayak!" to my last blog post, you'd have been the proud owner of, well, nothing. Except the satisfaction that you were right. Well done. Yes, we went out for a quick (free) stroll around the Waitangi treaty grounds and saw the big ceremonial waka and a golf course (I think the waka was there first). Then Mel, Shanna and I dragged the free kayaks from our hostel and kayaked up to H Falls, which were pretty cool. We even got back by 1pm which was good timing, riding the tide back down the lagoon. Shame we had no camera for it.
We set off and did some accidental Colin McCrae style drift riding around the road up to Mount Bledisloe for a great view over the Bay Of Islands. Then we had to gun it to the end of Ninety Mile Beach - Ahipara - to meet the horse trekking that Catherine and Lucy had booked. The rest of us lazed on the beach in the sun (and wind!) for a couple if hours, picked up the horsey girls and left for Pukenui in the dark. We had a nice floodlit barbecue and I spent the rest of the evening talking to a slightly strange guy who needs to read Ben Goldacre's "Bad Science", based on some of his claims...
