A very early start to the day and I tried to force down more breakfast without much luck. The "road" to Cho La Pass was long and wet, with slippery rocks and makeshift bridges that Gez struggled over, to my amusement (actually I think that was yesterday but it's still funny). We reached Cho La Pass after setting out at around 6:30am as the last group on the trail. Attempting it after 11am is suicide, apparently.
The path narrowed and steepened until we had to climb over huge boulders and loose rocks to the top of the pass. Gez had a bit of a panic moment over the steeper section but he pulled through.
Next up was a long slog through snow, ice and rocks. We had to keep to the left as it was a glacier and there was a danger of falling into crevasses and injuring/killing ourselves. Walking around the lake at the end, we climbed up to a rocky high point before the descent. People coming up the other side were obviously relieved and some were even crying , so selfishly I was hoping for a lot of downhill to finish, as I was pretty tired. I initially got my wish as we had to scramble down a steep and icy slope with loose, slippery rocks all the way to the bottom.
And then we were treated to more uphill! Undulating sections of rocky passes and then some climbs and drops seemed to never end until we finally reached the last ridge and it was a steady, in fact very quick march/jog to Dragnag and the comfort of a much better lodge and some better food that I nearly finished - hooray! Still like a furnace in the evening though...
