I slept well on this night train even though there were loads of bugs thanks to a Canadian girl called Emily and her magic knock out pills.
It was a short hour drive to Hoi An from the station which was nice as it was nice and quick.
Hoi An is a lovely small town that is a more fittingly traditional place with lanterns everywhere and trees covering the sidewalks, it was very pretty.
We started the day at our hotel, which was "slightly" better than all the other ones we've been to and probably the whole tour; it was very swanky with a fancy pool, spa and the general decor of the place, of course I never used these things as I will be too busy doing things and exploring.
Heading out into town Sue showed us around and told us where the best food places, tailors etc. where. Apparently this place has the best sandwich shop in Vietnam that had won awards so naturally we headed there for some lunch. The shop was very small and dainty but when we sat down and ate our sandwiches (mine of which was a sausage sandwich) it was amazing; it had bits of smaller meat, a few veggies and greens with seasoning it was lush.
Today is going to be a historic day visiting the museums and ancient buildings but first now that I'm full from two sandwiches I'm off to the tailors for some suits.
Hoi An is famous for its tailors and the fact you can get thousand pound suits for about a fifth the price made and celebrity fashions copied perfectly. I needed to get a few suits as my current ones were old and small so I can look all flashy in Qatar and hit the town in style.
I went with the recommended shop Sue told us about and picked a suit for more formal occasions made out of cashmere; it was so soft and light, I could choose what material, fashion style, features and everything.
My tailor Elisa was very professional and asked me questions about all the things I wanted, something that nobody else had who also went for suits at the same time as me in the group.
So I got my first fitting using a digital boxed grid to get every inch right in my fittings.
I went a bit nuts and got 4 shirts, 2 suit jackets, 1 waistcoat, 3 trousers and a tie. I have to come back tonight for a second fitting and one more in the morning and then they will be complete to take home, although I will be shipping them back to the UK.
I went back to the hotel to meet up with Miriam and Alex who I was going to go around town checking out all the different museums and interesting things.
Earlier on in the day we bought a ticket sheet with 4 tickets on which allowed us to visit 4 places for 4 dollars.
The first place we visited, we had to cross an old Japanese bridge that was very pretty and made out of wood, it was built in the 17th century. We got to a prayer temple called Cam Pho temple. We gave the little man out ticket sheet where he cut one off with these long old scissors and we entered the grounds. It was very plain and simplistic with a small altar at the front of the building, on the right hand side was a gong and the left there was a drum. I obviously hit both of these for a laugh quietly and was very serene.
The second place was a building dedicated to an ancient tribe found in the area dating around a couple of thousand years ago with old tools and pottery etc. The most exciting part of this was a massive swarm of ants outside moving across the building
