Morning, tonight is the night I will experience my first night train of four on the trip which should be interesting but until the I have a fun packed day ahead of me.
I woke up and had some breakfast, I never eat breakfast normally but on this holiday I am having it everyday for some reason, another mix of juicy fruits and noodles.
I got the tour bus with my crew and drove out of the city for about an hour to the tunnels, suddenly the heavens opened in what is the nastiest day of the tour by far it was pouring down with heavy heavy rain, not the best weather to be doing this particular event.
I refused to let the rain dampen my spirits as this was going to be cool I could tell as I was building up my excitement.
We started with an interesting lecture by our tour guide who was called Lau or (law) which he constantly did judge dredd jokes about listening and obeying the law etc which I found quite funny. He talked about how many Americans came over and how many Vietnamese there were and how they lived and fought in the tunnels.
They designed the tunnels ingeniously, they had links to the river to get fresh water and disperse any chemical gas pumped into them; several compartments which held different functions such as a hospital, school, kitchen, weapons storage; and they build them up to 10 metres underground in zig zag shapes with trapdoors and booby traps to stop Americans from getting them.
5million Americans came over and about 100,000 of them were killed whereas around 2million Vietnamese were killed in the local area alone.
After his lecture we had an old wartime propaganda video made by the Vietnamese which was quite funny to watch although somewhat bad quality.
As the rain continued to pummel the ground with force we left the makeshift tent where our lecture was and walked around the grounds. We saw lots of examples of all the lovely booby traps that the tour guide was telling us about and some old abandoned artillery shells the size of children.
We saw one of the exits holes the Vietnamese used to get in and out of the tunnels, sadly with the rain we weren't able to go down it, which I was gutted about. At around this time we could hear the constant banging of guns in the background, our guide said that we could pay to shoot some of the wartime guns later on, yes I am so going to shoot a gun for the first time today
