My turn to feel rough with the altitude today as horrid pain in head! I now know why all the travel info suggests a few days to get used to the altitude before going on a trek! Drinking lots of Coca tea (which looks like bay leaves in hot water) which is the traditional remedy and walking slowly. Starting to feel better! Matt is better today just as the guys in the hotel said he would be, but we are both taking it easy.
Walked into town (slowly) and got some alpaka wool gloves for trek (going to be cold at night) and Matt got a hat for the sun during the day (he now looks like a cousin of Indiana Jones). There was a big parade in the centre of town which was fun to see. Really sunny in the day for short but evening are cold
Had Alpaka steak for lunch which was tasty, but all food so far in Peru is really salty.
We had a briefing yesterday from our trek guide who seems really nice and sounds like we are going to be well fed with 3 course lunch and dinner. Unlike the Inka trail the Lares trek we are doing has horses to carry the stuff and a spare horse to carry anyone strugging, and spare oxygen so we will be well looked after.
More Coca tea before packing for camping trek. Feeling better
