We wanted to see the salt flats but we were wrong
in thinking they were anywhere close to Salk Lake City. There is a big salt
lake near the city which sometimes dries out into salt flats but the one we
wanted to see was over three hours away. It was a very strange drive to get
there, all there was around us was salt and the odd salt factory. It was so
flat as far as the eye could see. Flat and hot! The road ahead looked like a
mirror. Just as we thought we were lost, I spotted a sign for the Bonneville
Speedway, this is where the land speed records are set and where Richard
Hammond crashed. It turns out if we'd come a couple of days later we would have
seen loads of races as there was a big car show that only happens for ten days
a year. Shame, but we had to get up to Yellowstone. So after a quick walk round
we hopped back in the mazzy and hit the road again! We made it up to Idaho Falls
that night where we staying in our first Motel 6, nice and cheap as well as
new.
