After a few days of pretty Popayan we got a 5 hour bus to this place called San Agustin. The bus was pretty horrendous.. all the roads in Colombia are good except that one! Its a super small town, where half the vehicles on the road are horse and carts where theres a few archaeological sites to explore. It was beautiful and we stayed at the top of this hill in a family run hostel. The family consisted of mum, dad, sister, 5 kids and grandma who would always give you a kiss when you came in. Proper old school, they only had cold water showers (which was freezing) and a crackily old black and white t.v which they all sat round together. They pretty much left us to it apart from giving us free drinks all the time. We strolled around for a few days, looking at the sites and exploring the countryside. Its the kind of place that you get invited into tea whereever you go and they speak really slow spanish so we could communicate pretty well. So had a lovely time there and then got an overnight bus to Bogota.
Bogota surprised me actually, I was sort of expecting to feel on edge a bit because its known to be a bit more dangerous than most cities. But it really wasn´t like that at all, the streets are actually quite quant and the people are as friendly as ever. Didn´t really do that much there, just visited a gold museum and wandered around a bit. Willsy was eager to get back to the countryside so we've come to a small town called Salento and its fantastic scenery. We're staying on this little coffee farm, and have.. as they call it 'the penthouse' HAHA. I have no idea why they call it that.. it doesnt even have a door . But it does however have panoramic 360 views of the valleys which is useful as there are no curtains either. Its really basic, but its super quiet and peaceful so good for relaxing for a couple of days before we go to Medillin.
Colombia is wicked if you like .. dogs (everyone has about ten each), greenery (its the most stunning scenery we've seen bar NZ), mountains (its all mountain except the Carribean coast), bananas and mango (they have a billion bananas and you pretty much always get one on the side of your plate). Its also cool if you dont like paying for bottled water, they´re tap water is safe to drink, which is a first! Thats it for now I think, as Medillin is supposed to be famous for plastic surgery and beautiful people, it should be interesting. Matthew is super excited for some reason. Ha xxx
