So after just a single night back in Alice we decided to get back on the road for another mammoth roadtrip.
Day 111:
Today we started out towards Kings Canyon at Watarrka National Park after replenishing our food supplies. Finally arrived at Kings Canyon Resort following hours on the road & had a kickabout after a stressful time putting the tent up. No grass & no rain meant that we may as well have been trying to peg the tent to rocks.
Sara & Carly made a spaghetti bolognese which was amazing. Everyone struggled to finish apart from me & I made sure that all four plates were clean! Standard procedure really. I volunteered to do the washing up & within a minute of filling the sink, a dingo was stood right behind me waiting for something. I wasn't waiting, I ran into the toilet & locked the gate!! Heard some bad things about dingoes so wasn't taking any chances.
When I emerged from the toilets, there was a guy taking pics of the bloody thing, close ups 'n' all. He said they aren't dangerous & are more frightnened of us than we are of them. I felt stupid.
We watched 28 Weeks Later back at the van before going to bed. Dingoes were howling for a couple hours but it was the cold we were worried about!!
Day 112:
We arrived at Kings Canyon after a short drive from the resort & set out immediately. There were 2 walks, one was short, about 1.6km & the other was over 6 k's.
We opted for the shorter of the 2, but soon realised that it didnt give any real views of the canyon. We filled the water bottles & had some breakfast before braving the longer trek.
It started out really steep & very hard work but once we were up there it was easier & the views were incredible. We spent hours on the Canyon getting good pics & moaning about how hungry we all were. We had conversations about every type of food we've ever eaten I think. Passed the time & made us appreciate lunch when we finally arrived back in the car park!!
We drove back along the highway on the way to Ayers Rock (Uluru) but decided to stop at Kings Creek Station so that me & Ed could do some outback quad-biking. It was us 2 & some girl who didn't have a clue. Luckily she crashed within 200 yards so the guide told her to go back!! Best thing that could've happened because we floored it around the whole area. So grateful that she couldn't drive!!
We stopped a few times to watch wild horses & take in the views as well as some holiday pics. A couple of stops were made because Ed was drifting behind. One time he forgot to slow down at a bend & ploughed through the corner, tried to recover it but ended up landing across the track stuck between the grooves like in the Austin Powers film! Had to be there but it was so funny.
Carly & Sara had a 'pot of tea for two' (private joke) with Tim-Tams while we were away.
After telling the girls how good it was & how bad Ed's driving was we carried on to Curtin Springs, a free campsite about 80km from Ayers Rock. Ed was driving which probably wasn't a good idea following the quadbiking!!
When we arrived we had a nice meal at the restaurant & had the worst campfire on record before going to bed!
