ello. ok since the last postie ive had 3 days of work, come through unscaved pretty much although today i got run over by the bloody trailer from the tractor which hurt a looooooooot but hey ho gota work! few bleeding nails and hardcore work in return for some much needed smackers in bank so no worries. 1st day- went to the capsicum farm at half5, freezing my ass off, every piece of clothing possible, zero degrees! then we jumped off the back of the trailer near some shed and got told where to go. i, being new, got asked to go to do weeding all day, not impressed as this pays less and ya stuck out in some field on your own all day.. but its was better for me as its not so much bending down so i was happy bout it in the end, especially as the fruiters didnt make much due to lack of fruit. so from 6 til 2ish i was out pulling up the big weeds from the capsicum fields, had my music on, singing away to everything, mainly coldplay, coldplay i found to be very therputic singalong music whilst out in a field on your own. that day was over, we all took the minibus backhome, and hada big footy match on a nearby park, then played poker all night, good day! received great news too, one of the tomato boys pulled out and so i was asked to go straight to tomatoes which is a result coz they pay better and are higher upin bushes(belly height) so ya dont need to bend all day.so the 2nd day,weather vastly improved by the way, still gets to zero at night, but quickly smacks it up to around 35 during the day,which is awesome! another shortish day, only 6am-12, picked a fair few tommys and then we went onto some capsicums for an hour after, then more footy and poker and happy days. now today was the killer, we had a full day ahead and the initial optimism of a new job had gone.. woke up at 530 as always, and went off to a tomato egg field, (the oblong tomatoes) and i was chosen to be 'bucket boy' coz of my height and fitness. this basically entails (entails, is that right spelling, hmm) running around like a flamin tasmanian devil all day long collecting peoples full buckets. when u finish a bucket ya shout 'BUCKET' cleverly enough, and then i have to run over pick it up, send it over the 6ft bushes and to the next guy in the other line, who has a free bucket and is waiting for mine. its a well oiled system the old fruit picking business, and today eg was an average day, yet we still probably picked 3000 egg tomatoes, which is probably a lot of moneys worth. the koreans and chinese are absolute machines, yet still have abig smile on their face, dont know how they do it! they just work full pelt all day. today 'rooster' china man made 120odd buckets, 2.50 a bucket=300bucks, so about 130pounds a day!!! thats a lot of money in any job i reckon. my dutch german and english buddies averaged about 50-60 buckets, which is still enough to save around 250pounds a week after everything. me being bucket boy, i get hourly pay of 15 an hour, about 7quid, and hope to save 400(250quid) bucks a week too, at least. its realyl hard work and i really doubt i could be arsed to work on farms for 3 months just to stay another year, but we'll see how it goes, gona stick it out at least 2 weeks, then maye get an office job in brisbane or something, save up a load, fly to perth early june, go bali sunbathing and surfing, then home for ma bday! thats the plan anyway, should be no problem! cant wait to get home, be so cool to catch up with everyone for a few weeks then come back out to oz to do the west coast properly. even if i dont extend my visa, i still ahve til november, which is loads of time to go home, come back out abnd travel. then hopefully have enough to go back via good old asia to top up the tan before english winter! anyway, long ass postcard, just an update on my working ways, will write again in a few weeks hopefully when i have a grand in the bank and am ready to move on again! well annoyed i work at 6am, cant watch the champions league. rrrrrreally annoyed. no foxtel (oz Sky tv) in the lodge either so have to wait for news updates or something... hmm harris if ya read this please text me the goals for the juventus arsenal game! miss you all, mum and dad, make the most of time without joshy haah hes coming back soon, and has a suprise lol! xxxxxxxxx
