From Izola it's a short drive to Koper, Slovenia's major sea port where we easily found parking. Last night the plan was that if we could park we would visit, but that has somehow been forgotten today, There is a short disagreement so we say forget it and drive on over a convoluted route to avoid the toll road until we Areach the Italian border on a bend in a country lane. We pass the urban sprawl of Trieste where we see the Wartsila factory with a number of newly built marine engines under tarpaulins.
It's a fairly uneventful ride to Monfalcone where we stop at Lidl. Behind the supermarket is the Krupp shipyard and we park for lunch in the shadow of a new cruise ship, Carnival Vista.
After lunch we head for our stop, a Fattore Amico restaurant at Villagio del Pescatorri, stopping on the way at a camping store to buy a fan. Driving through the village we are unable to locate the restaurant, so we ask two women sitting in their garden and one of them offers to lead us in her car.
At the end of a dusty lane is the restaurant, a carpark in an old quarry and a large Venice-like lagoon with poles marking the channels. It's a lovely scene and our earlier disagreements are soon forgotten.
Later we approach the restaurant only to find it fully booked so we cook in the van and sit outside as another spell of thunder rolls around.
