Well sitting here in our last Hotel this trip, we are outside Gent in Belgium, we have passed through Poland where the roads were good but boy were they busy with Articulated lorries, sometimes it was like we were back in India, as we had Artics coming towards us, overtaking cars pulling trailers who were overtaking cars! all you could do was pull into the side of the road and hope!, so we had to keep keep calm and carry on as the saying goes, oh and enjoy the ride, which to be fair we did. We stayed in Warsaw again, but the hotel room was 25 floors up, so we had a great view of the city, it was really cheap, but like a 4 star hotel, the staff took a shine to the bike and took photos posing on it, one gave me his phone number, so that I could call him when I wanted to sell it, (honest!), one girl gave me a handful of sweets and wished us luck, they were really nice. Then the next couple of days, it was the grind of motorways through Germany, you can make progress, but they are deadly boring, we stopped at a few Harley Dealers on the way to break up the monotony of it, and to get lost of course.
Today 20th July started off very overcast and had to put waterproofs on first things as we had a little rain, we have gone off the motorways for a bit to cut through Germany, Holland and enter Belgium. We stop at at a couple of places to eat there are a lot of motorbikes around in Holland and Belgium, far more than in Germany, although we saw quite a few on trailers as is usual there. We stopped off for lunch in a place called Retie there were bikers in the town center, so it must be okay, a large number of very loud monkey bikes rode through, everyone just laughed at them, some waved as I took a couple of photos and revved their engines for us, the old bikers just shook their heads, so off we went to the local Harley Dealer outside of Antwerp, (got lost trying to find it of course, why do they keep changing the road numbers?) after the usual picture and search round the shop, prices in EU are far higher than the UK, we chatted to some of the local chapter, swapping tales of the Rome Rally, one of the bikes was a twin of mine, and as usual, they were suprised at our trip, and the fact the bike has had no problems, also they wanted to know how safe Russia, Lithuania and Latvia were, as they thought they were dangerous, those countries have a lot of work to do, to encourage people to visit, we did our best, and explained we had no problems and that the people were nice, hotels ensured the bike was safe and that they should give it a go. A couple from thier chapter were blessed by the pope as it was their honeymoon at the rally, ahh.... after that we ride on through to the Hotel for the last time this trip.
We catch the 1120am chunnel, should be a straight forward run it, fingers crossed.
