Im up early, too early to visit L'Anse aux Meadows so head into St Anthony for a coffee and to check out the lighthouse. By the time im done and made the ride across the north end, L'Anse aux Meadows is open. Its the site of the first Nordic settlement in North America, marking the circumnavigation of the globe by humans over 1000 years ago. As im leaving i meet Pierre again.
I make my way back south and get on the 2hr ferry to Labrador. Its a rough crossing from St Barbe to L'Anse Claire (Quebec) where i pick up a Sat-phone provided by the province when crossing the Trans-Labrador Highway. Its a sealed road to Red Bay before it turns into gravel. I fuel up and hit the 135km of dirt to Port Hope Simpson where i fuel up again and find a great little lake side jetty just opposite town and set up camp.
