So the day of the epic adventure begins. I feel like Odysseus having just completed an epic or Jason having voyaged with the argonauts!
We set off this morning at 6.45am arriving at our boat. We watched with horror as near on 50 people where crammed into our tiny floating juggernaut. Fortunately for us there was no space inside so we were blessed or as soon to discover cursed to sit aside our ship ( I lovingly call The slough due to it's inability to move with any haste!). The sun gently rose in the west gradually cooking us alive. I was literally a fried egg by the time lunch break happened. It was a tiny shop on an island (I am thinking of reporting them to the monopolies commission as there clearly was no where else to go!
So we Reboarded the good old slough where Zeus dished out his vengeance upon us in the form of burning skies!!! We had no where to go and slowly pinked alive (on a side note now I realise with true clarity how a cooking lobster feels!)
All the way throughout our 8hour voyage we started to offload our precious cargo won from the merciless city of Battambang. First little boats would paddle out for supplies of flour, sugar and mixed fruit, and finally a solar panel!!!!
Our endeavour continued... But this time it was against the wrath of poisidon god of the sea!!! A tropical storm erupted above the boat. The thunder and lightening forced us to the sanctuary of the inside. Boat fumes assaulted our noses, the boat rocking peerlessly from side to side. Water poured like a torrent through windows and doors beginning to pull the boat under... Finally we arrived at port (bamboo gangway) grabbing our belongs we fled for shelter. Our final and most difficult task lay ahead.... Battling through an eager swarming, bloodthirsty hovel of waiting tuk tuk drivers vying for attention! I put my head down a prepared to charge Spartan style, I unclasped my sword and put on my shining breastplate. All of a sudden a ray of sun light descended from the heavens upon a single man braving the storm in poncho with a shiny beacon of our salvation. The message read " Mark Hughes, welcome.". Out hostel had sent a knight in shining armour to drive us to safety. Our voyage complete our reward oh so sweet cambodian curry.
