Day 86. Mexico.
Well it's been an interesting day today! It was up early for our tour to Taxco and Cuernavaca. The start was a bit disorganised but after a while the tour company managed to assemble the right group and match it with a minibus. After that we began our 3 hour trip to Taxco. It soon became clear that the guide spoke little English which made the little dialogue there was confusing and more than a little tedious. On arrival at Taxco we were dropped outside a silver shop. We then were forced to cram 5 minutes worth of fun onto an hour and a half. I think the plan was to keep the group there until we spent money. After that we were off to a mediocre restaurant before being shepherded to another silver shop. We scarpered quickly from there to look around the town which was actually quite interesting. On the way back the driver either "forgot" to stop at Cuernavaca, had to get back for someone's connecting flight (untrue) or had decided that the road was impassable. After a 15 minute stop to argue on the hard shoulder we eventually shamed him into turning back (involving a u turn across 6 lanes of motorway traffic) for our 2nd stop. Dire threats that this would add 5 hours to the journey were not realised as we reached our stop 24 minutes later. The trip back has also been a lot quieter than was forecast by our resident doom monger. All in all a true Mexican experience from start to finish! And to top it all off Jane has realised that she left her phone on the bus. Let's hope we can get that back tomorrow!
