Water; not a swimming pool is one of the basic things to get right when staying in a hotel. It took two trips to reception yesterday to get water to both the taps and shower. When I got up there was no water - again.
I went out and saw another local woman complain. This complain resulted in a trickle of a few seconds and then nothing. I will let them deal with the contents of the toilet - let's get out of here.
We were no longer in the mood for another beach however nice it might be. After a lot of time moving very slowly we were in the mood to get travelling again.
We headed off to find the bus back to Morocoy (basically the only destination there was).
We assumed that the bus would end up at the bus station where we caught the bus yesterday. Wrong assumption - we were dropped off in the city somewhere. There was a line of what you could descibe as buses but I think they were por puestos ie go where they feel like and pick up people as they go along.
I have seen lots of knackered buses in various third world places but these took the buscuit. Asking them if they went to the terminal delivered the goods. He made a remark about paying extra for the bags but these things are the definition of cheap in a country where fuel is 6 cents a litre (4p).
Being the only two on board didn't last long soon people were hanging out of the doors and it was hot (dam hot). We payed about 50p for the journey back to the all too familiar terminal.
The plan was to get to Merida situated at the start of the Andes. This was a 10 - 12 hour journey. Both of us didn't fancy doing that on a cramped local bus especially when it was through some high altitude areas with expected long drops. After asking a few locals it became apparent that we couldn't get a nice bus from here.
The revised plan was to get a bus to Valencia (third largest city) and then get a nice night bus to get us there for the morning.
So here we are waiting 7 hours for the next availiable bus and the prospect of another whole night of travel.
