We arrived in Chiang Mai at 6am and got a tuk tuk to the old city to find some accomodation. Luckily the place we found has a well known reputation for organising treks (as they take you off the touirst route and up along the burmese border). We decided to arrange a 3day/2night trek but we had a day to kill so we decided to look at alot of the Buddah temples etc around the city and went to the market. We met an American guy who walked around with us, his name was Karl.......Karl Van Marl!!!!!
There was 8 of us on our trek and our guide (woody) who is an original jungle boy, he looked like mogli but with a boxers body maybe because he had been in the Thai army. On the trek we spent each night with tribes in the mountain (which was amazing sitting around the fire etc). On the first night Woody took us trantula hunting! (which scared the crap out of Laura) We found 2, one of which was guarding its eggs and was a bit angry! we also went bamboo rafting, elephant riding and ended it all with a swim in the highest waterfall in Chiang Mai. Woody made me a sling shot and Laura a walking stick and a bracelet. We also ate Chicken Stomach and Pigs Tongue and drank water from the trees!
