After our exciting time on safari we flew to the island of Zanzibar just of the coast of Tanzania mainland. We arrived in Stone Town and spent a few days wandering around the alleys and mainly getting lost until we stumbled on a alley that we recognised, it reminded us of a cross between Nepal and India but without the hassle. Stone Town is a UNESCO site with an amazing mix of cultures that makes it a great place to visit. The people in Stone Town and the whole of Zanzibar are so friendly and were happy for us to look at stuff in their shops and then to walk away without buying anything even thanking us for our time; amazing that would never happen in so many other places we visited along this trip. The food in Stone Town is fantastic as well with lots of seafood and lots of middle eastern flavours, Mark even had two sets of fajitas for lunch one day as he decided they were the best he has ever had (what a fatty, well he hasnt had cake for weeks now). We visited the Anglican Cathedral which was built on the site of the old slave markets which was very interesting to see, the alter was placed on the exact spot that the whipping post of the markets was and also in the cathedral there is a wooden cross made from the wood of the tree under which David Livingstone died. We also took a wander through the 'House of Wonders' and watched the evening markets at Forodhani Gardens.
After our time in Stone Town we headed to the East of the Island which is much quieter to spend the last week of our epic trip relaxing at the beach, and what a beach it is. We are staying at Pongwe and it is stunning the beach is just like a bounty beach; lucky as we have been eating alot of bounty's here. Our cottage is set on a rock of coral and goes straight out onto the beach. We have spent the week eating fantastic food, reading lots of books, drinking G&Ts and cocktails and just generally enjoying ourselves; what a fantastic way to end our six month honeymoon!
